The one thing we love more than saving money -- is telling our viewers how they can save money too! Just in time for our annual spring cleaning...we're cleaning up on all the best deals! John Matarese from www.DontWasteYourMoney.com is filling us in on what to buy in April!
In any change-of-season month, you'll find deals on the outgoing season's clothing. So if you're looking for any type of cooler-weather clothing, April is your month. Anything related to winter is marked down 50, 60, 75% off. I know you don't want a winter coat in April, but if you buy one now, come October or November, you'll be styling for very little money.
And throughout the month, you'll find sales on supplies for home improvement. Stores like Home Depot and Lowe's know people are starting to work on their homes, so you'll find sales on paint, scrapers, paintbrushes, anything to fix up the house.
Retailers like to peg sales to holidays, so look for some deals leading up to Easter, which this year falls on April 9. John says -- just like with turkeys on Thanksgiving -- you'll find lots of markdowns on Easter-related items like spiral ham. Buy two, freeze one for later in the year. Sadly, you won't find any great deals on Easter eggs though, because egg prices are still sky-high this spring. And if you're one of those folks that keeps Michael's in business by decorating for every holiday -- starting the Monday after Easter, you'll find markdowns on bunnies and every sort of decoration you could possibly want.
So take 'em right from the car to the attic for next year.
This month even has sales keyed to a newer holiday -- Earth Day on April 22. You'll get great prices on organic and sustainable products. Whole Foods runs days of specials connected with the holiday. If you're looking for organic cosmetics or cleaning products for your house, that's the time.
Of course, there are also some things you shouldn't buy in April -- so what to wait on?
With summer coming, you won't find that many great deals on patio sets and on grills. If you're looking to get a new patio set or a grill, you might wanna wait for the Memorial Day sales. Or even better, Labor Day when they'll be on clearance.
Finally, every month has national something day. So what is it in April?
April 26 is National Soft Pretzel Day. So any time you go to the mall, especially if you have kids, look for great deals on soft pretzels -- John is a fan, and says you can't go wrong with that!
